Chronolog — 01.01 “Insertion” (Pilot)
A rookie time-agent is sent to a sun-bleached Guam pier to bring in a suspended operative — a man who insists he’s just a washed-up local named Jack, not the specialist the Chronology needs back on duty.
The story
Pilot 01.01 of an ongoing series. Wyatt Rainier — young, earnest, jacket stencilled CHRONOLOGY — weaves through a Guam tourist crowd to a long jetty, hunting a man he’s only seen on file. Specialist Twomey is now “Jack”: suspended, inactive, and very much not interested in being reactivated, mid-flirtation with a local woman in the orange-purple dusk. Their stand-off on the pier is the whole engine of the pilot — protocol against reluctance, a cadet against a burnout who knows exactly what the job costs. The time-agency worldbuilding (rank, surveillance, glass-panel tech) arrives by implication, never lecture. Built to run.
Coverage — plot points
- Cadet Surveillant Wyatt Rainier tracks Jack Twomey to a Guam tourist pier.
- Jack refuses the call — “suspended resident, unfit for duty, officially inactive.”
- A transparent glass PDA holds something that changes the conversation.
- The pilot seeds the Chronology org, its ranks, and the cost of “insertion”.
